National Chip and Dip Day low carb recipes

Monday is National Chip and Dip Day. I'm serving up a few recipes so you can celebrate early. Believed to have been created by the snack food industry, National Chip and Dip Day shouldn't be confused with National Potato Chip Day on March 14th. After all, potato chips are our number one snack food. All other chips have to stand in line to get to the dip.

Most Americans celebrate this favorite snack duo of chips and dips more often than they should. Here's a few healthy recipes with a low carbohydrate twist on the old favorites. Remember, portions still count!

Click here to check out the recipes, and watch videos on making your own homemade chips, dips, and salsa.

January Is Slipping Away From Me

I just realized I haven't posted here for a week. A lot of distractions in my life right now, including a new eight week old puppy. I'm still struggling with the last vestiges of flu. This has been the worst flu we ever suffered through. Luckily, Bruno fought it off in just over a week, but we two "old dogs" are still not completely recovered.

I received my ChaLEAN Extreme system and when I'm closer to 100 percent, or even 75 percent, I'll be using the system, and reviewing it here and in my Examiner column.

In the mean time, enjoy this video.

Get fit now for free

The economy is in the toilet and almost everyone is slashing spending. Our personal budgets are under careful scrutiny. Luxuries are the first items to get slashed. Unfortunately, for most people this includes gym memberships, fitness equipment, supplements, and even diet products.

Even if your household budget and wallet are losing weight, it doesn't mean you can't lose weight at the same time. You can get fit for free. What's the catch? Just the small inconvenience that you'll have to be self motivating and not rely on your $50 an hour personal trainer to whip you into shape. Oh, and you can forgo that pricey gym membership while saving on time and gas.

For more information, including three sources of free exercise videos and sample workout videos check out my latest column at The Examiner.

New Examiner Article and Stop Making Excuses That You Have No Time or Can't Afford To Workout

My latest article 'Why You Don’t Need To Go To The Gym To Get Fit – Part Two' is up over at The Examiner.com.

The CTV.ca News Staff (article link) and other news sources including Reuters reported that new research from the University of Maryland School of Medicine suggests that a predisposition to obesity may be as easy to overcome as spending a few hours a week at the gym. This study found that study subjects performing a high level of physical activity basically counteract effects of gene mutations that predisposes them to obesity. The findings were published in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Did they really need to go to a gym to accomplish this? Probably not. Read more and find out how to get fit for free.

Money is not a factor for not working out. Neither is lack of time. No money? No time? Check out the videos below.

At risk of receiving low carb hate mail, (AND BOY DID I!) I had to post this. It's NOT anti-low carb, it merely

looks upon the latest low fat versus low carb study without a jaded and preconceived viewpoint.

I've said this before, I tend to listen to and follow the advice and lifestyles of "experts" who look fit. Not other

dieters - mostly the non-resistance training folks - don't reach goal or they look unfit.

Tom Venuto rocks (he's also rock hard) and he makes some valid points in his latest post
href="http://www.burnthefat.com">at Burn The Fat. And if you're serious about being fit subscribe to his free

newsletter and buy his books. I highly recommend them.

In This issue:

* What the new "low carb study REALLY says"

A news media feeding frenzy erupted earlier this week when a new dietstudy
broke in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) on Thursday, July 17th.

Almost all the reporters got it wrong, wrong WRONG! So did most of the gloating
low carb forumites and bloggers. Come to think of, almost everyone interpreted
this study wrong.

Some valuable insights came out of this study, but almost everyone missed them
because they were too busy believing what the news said or defending their own
cherished belief systems ...

See what this study REALLY said on the Burn The Fat Blog:

Swimming Pool Workout Part Two - We Get A Little Rowdy

Check out part one of our pool workout and the details on our smoke filled skies in my last couple of posts.

Cough, cough, sneeze. My eyes, nose, throat and lungs still burn. I jogged and kicked in the pool again today anyway.

Will I be able to workout tomorrow? I hope so.

Bardelli Swimming Pool Workout Video Part One

This part is pretty laid back. I did my kicking aerobics while Bruno did some swimming. We get rowdy with pool tag and some wrestling in part two.

In 94 degrees that pool feels oh, so cool.

Notice the smoke. You can barely see the hills but not the mountains. And it got worse the next day (see photos in my last entry). This evening my eyes, nose, throat and lungs are burning despite a breeze blowing some of the smoke out.

Our New (Used) ProForm 740CS Treadmill

We Love Our ProForm Treadmill! Six Thumbs Up!

This treadmill is our latest Craig's List find (and believe me our list of Craig's List finds is long including my 1993 Ford Club Wagon, my Thoroughbred mare, my horse trailer, a travel trailer, Jerry's flatbed truck, a utility trailer, my Chef's Magic double oven / range, and more). We've all tried it and love it. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a high end treadmill. It has a lot of bells and whistles including 6 personal trainer programs and goes from 0.1 mile an hour up to 10.0 miles an hour. I love that you can adjust the speed by 0.1 mph increments. Check out our demo video below.

Before picking up the treadmill we had breakfast at the Sparks Denny's on Nugget Way. And yes, the meal was high carb and oh so good! Hey, we'll burn it all off on our new treadmill.

Power 90X Kenpo Karate Part Five

You voted for which exercise video you wanted to see us demonstrate and it was a tie between Power 90X Kenpo Karate and Jillian Michaels' Full Frontal which we'll do sometime soon. Below are all five parts of our demo of Kenpo Karate X, a video of about 58 minutes.

Here's our non-spectacular performance. You'll find all five parts in the five entries below.

Just a reminder or a head's up to those who are unaware, I have to modify some exercises because I have Cerebral Palsy, which means I have movement, gait, and balance issues. The objective of any exercise is to burn calories, not to be graceful, and I certainly accomplished both.

According to Fitday we burned around 465 calories in the hour it took to do Kenpo Karate X. Kenpo Karate X is one of three cardio workouts in the Power 90X set of 12 DVD workouts. And believe me by the end we were dripping sweat and close to wasted.

Power 90X Kenpo Karate Part Four

300th Post - How Many Exercise Videos Can You Stack?

This is the 300th post for the Kudos For Low Carb blog. I've been at it now since July of 2006. I'm not sure I ever planned to get this far...who knew I had it in me to write so much about fitness, diet, and well, anything?

Today's video shows our rather extensive collection of exercise videos and DVD's we've collected over the years. And we've made this video interactive.

We Want Your Vote!

Vote for the exercise video you want to see us demonstrate or mangle slash perform badly. Hey, it's still good exercise as long as your moving!

We introduce the six candidate videos in part two. (I haven't been able to upload videos at Blogger lately and YouTube allows videos only up to 10 minutes and Bruno and I don't know when to shut up).

Your choices are:

Power 90X Kenpo Karate

Jillian Michael's The Biggest Winner Full Frontal

Jillian Michael's The Biggest Winner Back In Action

Karate For Kids

Turbo Jam Fat Blaster

Fluidity Fitness Evolved

You can vote by way of the poll at the top of our sidebar or by leaving a comment. In case of a tie or *GASP* no votes Bruno and I will pick a video and tape a segment of us doing part of it and show it here later.

Check out the video below for a look at our collection and feel free to tell us we're lunatic shopaholics.

_______________________________________________________________________________
The Bardelli Family Exercise Video / DVD Collection started in the late 1980's after I bought my first VCR. Richard Simmons started selling a few exercise videos and I snapped them up.

The bulk of our collection was purchased between 1995 and today. And yes, we overdid it. We estimate the collection at about 275 videos and 150 DVDs. Many of the VHS tapes we bought used along with a handful of the DVDs at garage sales, thrift shops, eBay, and Amazon.
