Easy and healthy soup recipes, part one

Soups are a classic comfort food. Warming to body and soul, most are also low in calories. While many cream based soups are high in fat and calories, they are appropriate for most low carbohydrate diets. On the other hand, many low fat and low calorie commercially prepared soups are very high in carbohydrates. An example is any soup containing pasta, potatoes or rice. See video demonstration below for an easy tomato soup recipe.

Pennsylvania researchers say the pounds melt off quickly on low-carbohydrate diets because overeating is fueled by simple carbohydrates like white bread, white rice and potatoes, white pasta, processed foods, sugary foods and desserts. It follows that you'll want to avoid these foods when they're present in soups. Soups containing beans are also high in carbohydrates.

While vegetables and fruits are carbohydrates, they are complex carbohydrates and digest more slowly than simple carbohydrates. Eating adequate amounts of vegetables and fruits is directly connected to improved health, weight loss, weight maintenance and balanced blood sugar levels. Limit fruits high in sugar to avoid blood sugar spikes.

I love my job! But we're having a dysfunctional relationship at the moment

Okay, I'm a patient person. NOT. I love my job at a major online website and I would never leave willingly. The writing and publishing opportunity they offer me is worth any aggravation.

My impatience stems from this email statement: "we’ve made several observations about the migration of content..." Yeah, like in stuff has disappeared into thin air. Stuff I didn't always back up or lost to a willfully suicidal hard drive.

I hope I've learned my lesson. ALWAYS back up everything! Then back up the back ups. And never rely on a laptop.

Trio of easy and delicious hummus recipes

Hummus is a savory Mediterrean dish that goes with many foods. Whether you use it as a dip, slather it on toast, or top your favorite lamb dish with it, hummus is versatile. Hummus has been referred to as one of the oldest known prepared foods. Eaten in the Middle East since ancient times, hummus is still a staple of the region.

Hummus has gained popularity in Europe and the US, partly due to immigrants introducing it to American cities. The vegetarian movement also helped to boost the dish's consumption. Relatively low in carbohydrates at 3 grams per one tablespoon, it also only has 27 calories, 1 gram of fat and 1 gram of protein. A serving size is usually two tablespoons as hummus is often treated as a condiment. But this dish is healthy enough to be consumed in larger amounts within reason. Also check out the cooking demonstration video below for another hummus recipe.
