Easy and healthy soup recipes, part one




















Soups are a classic comfort food. Warming to body and soul, most are also low in calories. While many cream based soups are high in fat and calories, they are appropriate for most low carbohydrate diets. On the other hand, many low fat and low calorie commercially prepared soups are very high in carbohydrates. An example is any soup containing pasta, potatoes or rice. Pennsylvania researchers say the pounds melt off quickly on low-carbohydrate diets because overeating is fueled by simple carbohydrates like white bread, white rice and potatoes, white pasta, processed foods, sugary foods and desserts. It follows that you'll want to avoid these foods when they're present in soups. Soups containing beans are also high in carbohydrates.

While vegetables and fruits are carbohydrates, they are complex carbohydrates and digest more slowly than simple carbohydrates. Eating adequate amounts of vegetables and fruits is directly connected to improved health, weight loss, weight maintenance and balanced blood sugar levels. Limit fruits high in sugar to avoid blood sugar spikes.
